In Princess Máxima’s presence A Video Impression of the Inaugural Lecture by the new Prince Claus Chair holder
On
Thursday 28 May, HRH Princess Máxima of the Netherlands was present at
the inaugural lecture by Dr Irene Agyepong at the University Hall. A
video impression was made of the event.
On the recommendation
of the Curatorium of the Prince Claus Chair in Development and Equity,
the Executive Board of Utrecht University has appointed Dr Irene
Agyepong as holder of the Prince Claus Chair. Dr Agyepong will conduct
research into the health care in South Africa.
Irene Agyepong Ghanaian
Irene Agyepong (1960) is a public health expert. She is presently
Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service. She is also a member of
the NWO/NACCAP* Programme Committee, which combines scientific research
with investments in Africa to support the fight against diseases such
as AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
Research and Teaching The
Curatorium of the Prince Claus Chair is chaired by Princess Máxima. As
from 2009, the Chair is held for two years instead of one year only.
Outstanding young academics from Africa, Asia, Latin-America, the
Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean may be nominated for the Chair.
Appointments are offered alternately by Utrecht University and the
Institute of Social Studies. With the Chair, the institutions wish to
advance research and teaching in the field of development coordination
according to the insights of Prince Claus.
